Gambling is bad, especially for teenagers or people in their early 20s, so the average Apex player. Gambling schemes are designed to make you addicted and get you to spend all your money. That's why they are also unethical.
Buying a specific skin with real money is not gambling, since you know exactly what you're getting and how much you have to pay for it. It's just a normal transaction like buying something in the supermarket.
Respawn/EA went for the gambling option, because it generates more money. They know exactly how badly lootbox schemes can mess with the psyche of some vulnerable people, but they don't care. Like some drug dealer that gives you free samples to make you addicted, and then takes all your money.
That's the real issue. And if you buy Apex packs, you're actively supporting this disgusting business and keeping it alive.
"the game is free" or "they have to make money somehow" are awful arguments. There are tons ways to make money that aren't based on gambling, like just letting us buy specific skins individually.
Lootboxes are already banned in some countries, and many other countries are constantly looking into it and trying to get them banned too, which shows how serious this problem is.
The real issue is the disgusting filthy business that this game is adapting.
